TLA Series: What is a WMS?

by John Stucky

WMS stands for Warehouse Management System. This abbreviation is used to describe advanced software solutions to help manage inventory in a warehouse.  It is sometimes part of a larger business software solution such as an ERP solution or it can stand alone.  Advanced features include things such as directed picks & putaways, cross docking, barcoding and scanning, multiple location management, planning and more.
