TLA Series: What is the IoT?

Welcome back to our TLA series.  TLA stands for Three Letter Acronyms, and this is our effort to help explain what they mean.  Today we are covering IoT.

IoT stands for Internet of Things.  This was a term coined by an entrepreneur around the year 2000 and it represents the connection of physical devices to a network of some kind so that those devices can collect and exchange data.  It is currently one of the hottest topics in the IT world today.  Connected devices are everywhere – smart watches, health devices, cars, home systems, business systems and much, much more.  Experts believe that connected devices will continue to grow at a very fast pace.  What part of your organization is covered by a connected device today?  What might be covered tomorrow?
