Here is something that I see from clients occasionally. Scenario: User goes to the ‘Depreciate’ Window (Routines > Fixed Assets > Depreciate) to process depreciation of fixed assets. However, upon arriving at the window, they see the ‘Depreciate’ button unavailable.
Typically one of two things have occurred to get us into this situation. Either there was an unusual termination of GP while on the depreciation window, or the window was closed before the process could run to completion.
Not to worry, there is an easy solution (if you have access to SQL Management Studio).
Issue: Depreciation Button is unavailable
As you can see, even though all required information is selected on the window, the ‘Depreciate’ button is not available.
- Remove the hung record(s) from the table
*Is it always advisable to have a restorable backup of the company DB before making changes to data*
DELETE from TWO..FA40203 WHERE DEX_ROW_ID = '2003'
- Note that sample database ‘TWO’ is used in this example. Substitute ‘TWO’ for the database name.
- Additionally, substitute the DEX_ROW_ID that is returned in the first script.
- Close and Reopen the Depreciate Window in Dynamics GP
Verify that the ‘Depreciate’ button is now available.
Tip to prevent this behavior:
When running depreciation, make sure the progress bar is completely finished and the ‘Depreciate’ button is available again before you close the window.
